The filmmaker's unflinching satire examines the oppressive nature of women's appearance as well as the perceived horrors of growing older. Presence Film
The acclaimed director pushes his creative boundaries in this clever ghostly tale filmed completely through the eyes of a ghost. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe moves into their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of aware of the poltergeist, and the entity appears protective of her. But why? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Nicolas Cage wholeheartedly adopts his eccentric image through this meta comedy caper. Contacted by the intelligence agency to gather intel on the suspected cartel boss, Cage's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. October 11th, evening, on Channel 4
The Black Phone
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective without requiring a continuation. Located in 1978 Denver, several disappearances has left the local kids on edge. Once Finney gets captured by the villain and held captive in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. However, the non-functional line in the room keeps ringing, with ghostly voices giving advice, as the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. This Saturday, nighttime, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky true story regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals commence profiting from the people's religious faith. It's a riot of bad interior design, overdone appearance and insincerity, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the character with compassion. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
